Leadership and your team

Most of you reading this will be leaders or aspiring to be leaders. To be really successful in MLM and to build a huge residual income, you will have to become a leader. So how do you achieve this; why should you and what does it mean?

First you must have a mentor with real experience of network marketing; someone who has the battle scars to prove it. Too many so called gurus out there have little or no real experience in the trenches. You must always be accountable to someone and they may not be within your company – but find them. Why are you in this business?

To make my fortune of course! – I’m looking for financial freedom. – I want to own my life.

Sure – but that’s not enough. You will meet challenges on your journey and you must have a stronger, more specific reason for what you are doing. I’m sure most of you are familiar with ‘vision boards’ and ‘dream books’. Certainly since the release of the film The Secret they have become regular tools for most entrepreneurs.

The majority of people fill them with new cars, houses, holidays etc. As far as they go, they will give you motivation.

But are you a real dreamer, a visionary? Do you want to leave a lasting mark on the world after you have gone? Not necessarily that your name will be remembered – though it might be – but do you dream that many lives will have been enriched by your presence? Self-improvement is fundamental to success in life. Being financially successful is a part of true wealth and prosperity and that means that we must grow as people. Developing ourselves means becoming free of the chains of the past. We are products of our past but we do not have to remain victims of it – no matter how challenging our childhood experiences might have been

But I just want develop my business I hear you say. Abraham Lincoln said “If you give me an axe to cut down a tree, I will spend 4 hours sharpening the axe and two hours cutting down the tree”. I was looking at the fruit trees that I have in my garden just yesterday. The oranges are nearly finished but the nectarines are almost ready. That is what I noticed – almost and I cannot speed the process up even though I would really like to eat one now!

Network marketing is rather like a garden. It develops according to the natural cycle of planting, cultivating and harvesting. Yet the internet is filled with offers of explosive growth; get a hundred (or more) leads per day; secure your future with this pre-launch offer; etc, etc. It seems like so many people want the quantum leap from A to Z without the work in between.
