Usually people with a strong sales background are not very successful in MLM. Yet Jim Rohn used to say that when he discovered sales at the age of 25, it dramatically changed his life. My own team leader, the most successful distributor in my company often stresses the importance of selling product. But we also say that network marketing is a relationship business and not a sales business. Wow, that is a bit confusing.
The magic of this industry is that residual income is created by the ‘repeat principle’. Without repeat sales and repeat actions by your team members, you have no business. Without product sales, there is no volume in your company. Without volume, there is no cash to pay you. So how do you get the sales?
Whether you are looking for a new customer or a new distributor, your first job is to identify a need. Do they have a problem in their life that one of your products can solve? Would they benefit from joining your business and creating extra income? If they answer yes, then go on and stress the benefits of what you have to offer. Now comes the next step. Do you close them? Heavy hitters in network marketing promise Overnight Success. I’ve seen it since before the internet days. Now it’s even more of clarion call by so called superstars. Sadly many people still fall for it.
It is simply not true – in any area of life. Take a musician who rockets to stardom with his first record. Overnight success we all say. Wrong. He or she will have spent years playing cheap clubs and bars for a pittance; sending endless demo tapes to record companies and getting endless rejections. But he believes in himself, practices with better musicians and then…..well the harder we work, the luckier we get.
So why do we fall for this hype? Financial desperation, frustration with past failure, lack of self-confidence, many reasons. [click to continue…]

You are looking for business partners, not someone to simply sign a distributor agreement. So where are your entrepreneurs? The best prospects are those whose frustration in developing a home business makes them search for answers – or someone seriously looking to work from home. Most who work from home are part time. There are others things in their lives. These are the numbers so accept them. They want a system in which duplication is easy.
A network marketing leads system must be simple and it must target prospects who already understand what residual income really means. Once you have the passive income you desire you can choose to educate the world at large if you want. Till then concentrate on those already in or genuinely looking for an income opportunity.
