Generating leads; finding the right people to talk to; developing communication and sponsoring skills; these are certainly important. You won’t get far if you can’t build a team. But I knew someone who was good at all these things. Their team grew; lots of new distributors and enthusiasm and then attrition set in and it collapsed. Then more new team members……and the cycle started again. So what was missing? Maybe some of these…..
The following qualities are the foundation blocks on which you build.
Commitment: this is the ‘never give up’ quality that is your first requirement. Never give up on you; your dream; your team. If you don’t have this, you are doomed. But it is also important that your team feels this from you – it will inspire them.
Trust: build this with your distributors. Always do what you say you will and your team will see that you can really be trusted. And learn to trust others. If your team members feel you are always watching them; not allowing them to grow and try new things; you will stunt their growth.
Honour/integrity: these two are hard to set apart. They are about ‘you walking your talk’; being transparent, totally honest and reliable; doing the right thing whether anyone can see it or not; never talking about others or putting anyone down.
Work: after all we call it netWORK marketing. It’s good to learn how to work smart and not just grind away but you do have to go the extra mile. You have to be prepared to do what most people will not. In fact if you truly desire to build yourself a residual income, then you will probably have to work harder than you have ever done before.
Faith: this is the iron hard, unshakeable belief that you are destined for success and that you will achieve it. Many things that people set out to achieve demand huge faith. Climbing mountains, solo treks through inhospitable terrain, saving a company on the edge of bankruptcy are all tasks that most people would look at and back away from. Well sitting behind your computer in your spare room building your ‘little’ home business should be ranked up there with such challenges. For you to be mega successful you will need just as much faith.
Compassion: you might wonder where this fits in. Well there will be starry eyed dreamers who join you and they won’t make it. Others will jump to other opportunities. It may hurt and disappoint you. Don’t judge and criticise them. Remember what goes round comes around. Give them your blessing and let them go.
If you set out to live as well as to build a home business on these foundation blocks, the rest will follow. Skills, techniques and systems can all be learnt and they will put the icing on the cake. But without this personal foundation, you are building on sand.

Hi Charlie,
