Most of you reading this will be leaders or aspiring to be leaders. To be really successful in MLM and to build a huge residual income, you will have to become a leader. So how do you achieve this; why should you and what does it mean?
First you must have a mentor with real experience of network marketing; someone who has the battle scars to prove it. Too many so called gurus out there have little or no real experience in the trenches. You must always be accountable to someone and they may not be within your company – but find them. Read, study and constantly work on your own personal growth – to have more, you must become more. The late Jim Rohn always said that ‘leaders are readers’.
But why set this target for yourself? Is it not enough just to build a business and pocket the money? Well, if you want an outstanding life; if you have dreams that send shivers down your spine, then you will have to stand out from the crowd. You will have to be one of the few. Most of your team will be part of the ’95%’, but not you. Life’s winners are few in any area of human endeavour, but they lead lives that are rich and full.
Being a leader means setting an example that stretches people. Never coerce or tell others what to do. Show, suggest and be lavish and genuine in your praise. Celebrate the success of others above your own. The finest way to lead others to improve is to build their confidence and self belief. Let them grow at the pace that is right for them. Dale Carnegie said that leadership involves changing people’s attitudes and behaviour. He said we should be ‘hearty in our approbation, lavish in our praise and prepared to admit our own mistakes’.
Some will excel and join you on the ladder of leadership. Most won’t. Respect and nurture each to his abilities. As a great leader you are always a work in progress; always learning. In fact you should be a good follower without any pretension to be the captain of the ship. Then one day you will turn round and find a line of people following in your footsteps. And that is a great feeling.
