Great leaders and inspirers of men are not arrogant and unapproachable – they have no need to be like that. That is the domain of petty tyrants and small minded wannabe leaders. Leaders have no need to prove themselves to anyone else. Why is that?
When I was young and rebellious I wanted to feel I was part of a small, special group of people. We were different; we were going to change the world; our values were really exceptional. So I was a pretty arrogant young man. But hey, I was only young! Then I began to see that underneath it I am really not that different to my fellow human beings. That doesn’t mean I want to settle for the mediocre life most people lead. Of course not. But the greatest leaders and entrepreneurs still have wives, husbands, kids, like to hang out and sit in the sun.
As a leader, understand that you are no different, no better than anyone else. You do not have to compete and show yourself to be superior. The only person to whom you have to prove anything is you. So stop being right all the time and be yourself. [click to continue…]

This industry is about helping people to realise their dreams. So you are new in the business and you want to save the world and make sure everyone who joins you is super successful. Well that doesn’t work, even if you are a yellow personality! It is sad but true that 80% of your business will come from 20% of your team. Those are the numbers and you will never change them. That is human nature.
But the trick is to recognise the 20%. A lot of guys talk themselves up, but do they put their money where their mouth is? How can you tell the potential leaders from the rest? Observe and listen.
Good leaders are first good followers and they are coachable. Either your team or your MLM company will have a system to work with. When you go through an induction process with new team members, do they do what they are asked to? [click to continue…]

What is true leadership? After my last post I have been talking with people about this and I want to share some thoughts in a short series of articles. In my previous post I shared why I believe that becoming a leader is so important to your long term success and freedom in network marketing.
In my twenties I moved from job to job a lot. In part it was because I have always had a strong independent streak. You probably know that feeling of not wanting to answer to anyone else. Isn’t that why you are in this industry? So I started my own business in construction. It could have been a great chance to establish something very lucrative. OK, so it would never have given me residual income but I lost out on much of the potential through small thinking. I earned well but never big time.
What do I mean? I tried to keep too much under my control. [click to continue…]

Most of you reading this will be leaders or aspiring to be leaders. To be really successful in MLM and to build a huge residual income, you will have to become a leader. So how do you achieve this; why should you and what does it mean?
First you must have a mentor with real experience of network marketing; someone who has the battle scars to prove it. Too many so called gurus out there have little or no real experience in the trenches. You must always be accountable to someone and they may not be within your company – but find them. Most people struggle to grasp MLM compensation plans. When trying to analyse how much you will earn, trim away the extras – think residual:
“How many active people buying product on a monthly basis do I need to earn 10K per month of walk away income?”
Front end money is a great but that is not residual. So forget about fast start and recruiting bonuses when analysing the compensation plan for retirement income purposes. Just look at the residual.
If your check stops when recruiting stops, you are in the wrong business. [click to continue…]
