Do you Want Success or do you Desire Success?

by Charlie on March 4, 2010

This is not just a quirky play on words. The other side of want is lack. It is important to guard your thoughts and keep a positive mindset. If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you will know how much importance I place on personal development and the right mental attitude. Strength of mind is often more crucial than skills and techniques to achieve success in any field of human endeavour. Certainly, it will make the difference when all else is equal. Just watch runners lining up at the start of an Olympic race. Each is focused on what is ahead, visualising what is to come and seeing the winning tape as being his and only his.

Those guys don’t just want to win; they have a burning desire, an obsession at that moment. At the beginning of your MLM journey it may be hard to have that level of inner drive. It is new and most of you are likely in a regular job where big dreams just don’t have a place. You can’t increase your pay check by doing more and your dreams just leave you frustrated.

So how do you switch your mindset? Where do you get the inner magic from to be the catalyst of your dreams? We are awash with mentors and gurus, techniques and teachings. Most of you will be aware of the film ‘The Secret.’  There is a lot of value in the movie but you need to take the advice further to have success in manifesting your dreams. Just putting a load of pictures on a vision board will not do it.

Here are some pointers that will help:

  1. Decide on what you desire
  2. Go a bit deeper and see what your purpose is in having the lifestyle of your dreams
  3. Put pictures, images and ideas on a vision board
  4. Focus on them all the time
  5. Let nobody steal your dreams
  6. Make the changes in your life needed for success
  7. Make a plan

You must know absolutely, and in detail, what your short term goals and long term aims are. Otherwise you have no chance of getting there. Beyond the shiny toys and lifestyle trappings should be a deeper purpose of what you intend to do with your life. Money for its own sake will not bring lasting happiness. Find some quiet time to reflect on that.

It is not enough to simply think about these things – make a vision board – it works. In chapter 2 of ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill, he talks about our desires becoming dominating obsessions. Does this sound too much? Well that is a classic text and he was dead right. Remember those Olympic athletes? When you embark on your network marketing journey, you will need just the same degree of determination and commitment.

You will be surrounded by people jealous of your dreams; challenged by your determination because of their mediocrity. They will try to tear you down. You must choose to cut those influences out of your life. Sometimes this will mean making changes in how you live and with whom you spend your time. Remember your income is the average of the 5 people with whom you spend most time.

After all the inner stuff, then make a plan – be practical. Just thinking and dreaming will not get you there without a roadmap. Don’t make it complicated because at each step along the way, new doors will open and the plan will change. But do sit down with your sponsor and write down some steps to follow.

Spend time with positive, like minded people. Do this through master mind groups, reading, talking with your business mentors and listening to inspiring audios. We are surrounded by so much negativity – television, bad news, complaining people. Most people just soak this up and spend their lives just getting by.

Step out from the crowd and create your own life. Know in your heart that you will get what you desire. You must have a deep knowing that goes beyond wishes. Then you will be successful.

I’ll see you at the top,
