Does it really happen? It can. Does it work for most people? Definitely not. So you hear claims at company conventions of some big dog who has built his business fast and gone diamond in three or four months. You are sitting there thinking that you should be able to do that too and what is wrong with you that you haven’t achieved the same. Particularly if you have been in the business several times longer than this super star.
Well you can relax because you are just like 95% of MLM distributors. You see there are many things that can skew the picture. The first one is that it is not uncommon for companies to pay one of these heavy hitters to join them. On top of that he is then gifted with a ready made downline. Hard to believe? Most of you who read this will likely be avid online business builders and pretty internet savvy. The trouble is that because we all live and work in this rarefied atmosphere, we think everyone else does too. The fact is that about 80% of people are not really at ease with the internet. Sure many know how to order goods online and maybe they have a Yahoo or Hotmail account so they can get emails from family members when they are travelling. But that’s about it and they would certainly get lost trying to use social network sites for business building or trying to set up a blog. So how do you reach that huge offline market?
Well you are meeting people everyday in shops, restaurants, fitness centres and gas stations — just everywhere. “Oh no, I did the three foot rule when I started in MLM and I lost all my friends.” But it’s all in the approach and your agenda or lack of one. He was referring to personal development, which is key to being successful in Network Marketing. It is an essential ingredient to be successful in most human endeavours but I believe that in our industry in particular it is vital. It may be possible to recruit and batter one’s way to a good short term income. However if you wish to build true long term residual income then you need to do some work on the axe. You need skills; you need to learn how to close prospects and sign them up; you just have to talk to as many people as possible and find ways to keep increasing your list. Has that really worked for you? How about looking at what Napoleon Hill said in “Think and Grow Rich”. After all this is a book that I am sure most of you, as professional Network Marketers, have heard of or read. It is a classic manual of personal and business growth. So what tips does he give to grow your home business? Although MLM as we know it did not exist at the time he wrote the book, his principles still apply to us today.
In chapter 12, “The Subconscious Mind” he lists his seven Positive Emotions: [click to continue…]

Most people start in the Network Marketing industry on a part time basis. The majority never go full
time. When looking for the best MLM compensation plan, you must take this into account. If these distributors do not have a reasonable chance of success, your attrition rate will be unacceptably high. Even as a leader, you may then drop out yourself if you cannot sustain sufficient active downlines to create residual income.
Business Models drive the behaviour in the field so a different approach and a different kind of person is suited to each type of pay plan – binary, stair-step breakaway, unilevel etc. But within those – whichever you choose – there are two essential features which must be considered.
