Burning Desire

Picture yourself five years from now……will you be living the Life of your Dreams?  Free to do what you want; when you want and with whom you want?

Assume you work with a good company, so the basic requirements for success are there, in terms of the Five Pillars. So then it is down to you, to your inner Burning Desire.

I’ve just finished reading the second chapter of Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’, entitled ‘Desire’ in readiness for my weekly mastermind group, the Mental Cleanse. There is no way round it, if you do not have a burning desire you will never achieve anything out of the ordinary in any field of endeavour.

Nearly 6 years ago I suffered a bad accident. I broke both my feet and the right one was pretty bad, needing three operations. The surgeons told me that I would probably spend the rest of my days using walking sticks. No way did I accept that. In just a year I climbed the highest mountain in mainland Spain, not without considerable pain!

Think of one of the people featured in the film ‘The Secret’ – the pilot who crashed his light aircraft. He was in hospital on a life support machine which had to do everything for him – breathe, pump his heart. He could not use a single muscle, talk, absolutely nothing. He told the staff he would walk out of the hospital by Christmas and he did.

What is behind both of these stories is simply a Burning Desire. There was no question of failure. More than that, failure was not an option to be overcome. It simply did not feature in the plan!

You are ready for success aren’t you? Of course, that is why you are reading this. You want to retire with royalty income; to take your family on any vacation you desire; to live where you choose; to walk into a shop and buy your spouse that piece of jewellery or beautiful watch with the cash you just happen to have in your pocket. Well you can do this but you must be so focused on attaining your goal that you are consumed with it.

I do not mean by this, that you should walk roughshod over others. That will not bring true success. Your partner, your family, your inner circle are the ones with whom you want to share the life of your dreams. Working with and for them is part of the ticket. But if you do not burn inside for your dreams, they will never come true.

Napoleon Hill says “Success requires no apologies, failure permits no alibis.” That success is yours by right but if you do not make it, there is no excuse. Neck and neck races for Olympic medals have only one winner. The winner may have been pushed to the limit by the man he beat into second place, but no one remembers the name of the silver medallist.

Stoke your burning desire like a furnace and you will achieve your goal.
